Primarily, molding serves three functions: it adds decoration to a room, covers gaps between the walls and ceiling or floor and it protects wall surfaces.
Molding is available in lengths up to 16 feet (Most lumberyards stock these lengths, but hardware stores and home centers may not.) and in a variety of shapes.
